Maine Guide Wind Power, LLC “Your guide to energy independence” Chris Getchell XL-1
December 2008 found Maine Guide Wind Power LLC traveling to Whitneyville, ME to assist Chris Getchell in adding wind power to his off-grid solar system. Chris had previously installed a 1000 watt solar array, batteries and an inverter to provide power to his remote off-grid home. Over time he had determined that he needed to add either more solar or a wind generator to help reduce his generator run time. What his research had determined is more PV did not make as much sense as adding a Bergey XL-1 turbine to his system. You see the sun only shines on sunny days, but the wind can blow 24 hours a day even when it is dark or cloudy.
