Once the anchors and base had been
backfilled and left to settle and for the concrete to cure,
the next item on the agenda was to dig a wire run from the
tower base to my garage, where the Grid Tek inverter would
be located. The length of the wire run in my case was
about 260 feet. I had a small Kubota tractor do the
trenching. and then laid the 1 1/2" PVC conduit line in the
bottom of the trench. |
| Here you can see my grandson
helping with the conduit work as only a 6 year old can.
Once the conduit run was finished we inserted a small string
through the conduit using a shop vac, then pulled a larger
rope through the conduit, and finally pulled the 3 lengths
of wire through the conduit. On the outside of the
conduit a bare copper ground wire was laid to tie the tower
to the Grid Tek to help enhance lightning protection. |

Here we can be seen covering the top of the conduit with
several inches of sand, before we finally back filled over
the trench with the rocky soil that was removed when we had
the trench dug. For the final backfilling process we
used the Kubota once again to help save our backs. |
