Maine Guide Wind Power, LLC “Your guide to energy independence”

Finally after starting the prep work for the tower site we were ready to actually erect the tower and 10kw Bergey Excel.  I had arranged for Pieter Huebner from Bergey to come to Maine to assist me in stacking the tower and turbine.  The stacking process forgoes using a crane, and allows you to erect the tower and turbine using a winch and gin pole to erect the tower.  The turbine and associated hardware had been stored under cover on my trailer, and was now located on the tower site.  Pieter can be seen looking for something in the trailer.
Here is a shot of the tower having been started, with a few sections now stacked and secured.  In the foreground is my wood splitter, which has seen quite a bit of work this season, as the clearing of the site did provide about 3-4 years worth of wood to heat my home.

Here is a shot of the tower having been about 2/3 completed.  The gin pole is seen attached to the side of the tower, and the lower 2 sets of guy wires are seen as well.  It is prudent to have your climber on the ground while tensioning the guy wires.  After the guys were tensioned the gin pole will be raised and reattached to the top of the top most tower section to raise the next tower section into place.
